Ultrafast optoelectronic interface for digital superconducting electronics

چکیده

The basic concepts of the ultrafast optoelectronic interface for superconducting digital electronics are presented. Several implementations of both the input optical-to-electrical and the output electrical-to-optical transducers are discussed. As an example, an optoelectronic telecommunication router is used that is capable of switching signals at a >100 Gbit s−1 rate on a single wavelength. We demonstrate that superconducting optoelectronics emerges as the ultimate solution to the ultrafast input/output (I/O) interface of single-flux-quantum (SFQ)-based, superconducting digital electronics.

Ultrafast Optoelectronic Interface for Digital Superconducting Electronics

188 LLE Review, Volume 88 Introduction Ultrafast optoelectronics is an acknowledged field of technological importance for the 21st century, and a very large amount of research has been performed on this topic in recent years.1 It is estimated that by the year 2006 nearly 13% of developed-world households will be connected to Global Internet via interactive broadband fiber services. This require...

Ultrafast Optoelectronic Study of Superconducting Transmission Lines

A current and temperature controlled delay in the time of flight of electrical pulses in YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) spiral transmission lines has been studied by using ultrafast optoelectronic sampling techniques. The transmission line was configured in a stripline type on LaAlO3 substrate. The propagation time of ultrafast electrical pulses through the transmission line was measured as a function of t...

A nanocryotron comparator can connect single-flux-quantum circuits to conventional electronics

Integration with conventional electronics offers a straightforward and economical approach to upgrading existing superconducting technologies, such as scaling up superconducting detectors into large arrays and combining single flux quantum (SFQ) digital circuits with semiconductor logic gates and memories. However, direct output signals from superconducting devices (e.g., Josephson junctions) a...

THESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Towards Superconducting Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits

The superconducting Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) is vital in all modern superconducting Rapid Single Flux Quantum (RSFQ) digital systems. Importance of microwave components comes from the fact that superconducting circuits operate with an ultra-wide band signal in the ultra-low dissipation environment. At a typical signal bandwidth of 300 GHz, even a 100μm superconducting wire...
